Hailing from a family of medical professionals with her mother being a nurse and her father being a doctor, Dr. Evelyne Davidson was inspired to carry on their work after seeing the benefits of it firsthand. She had been exposed to the medical field for as long as she could remember. After completing her residency in internal medicine at the New Hanover Memorial Hospital in 1990, Dr. Davidson had the opportunity to join her father Elvyn’s private practice. She considers working alongside her father to be one of her career highlights. After four years at this practice, Dr. Davidson continued her work in medicine as a physician with the Baptist Primary Care System until 1998. Following that, she cared for patients as a physician at Premier Medical Associates until 2009. In 2009, she returned to private practice where she currently helps treat patients. In addition, she became the medical director of the Knoxville Office of Smoky Mountains Hospice in 2011 and a principal investigator of New Phase Research and Development in 2013.
Dr. Davidson prepared for her career by first earning a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineer from the Vanderbilt University School of Engineering in 1984. She continued at East Tennessee State University, receiving an MD in 1987. She followed this medical training with an internship at the New Hanover Memorial Hospital. In her line of work, Dr. Davidson strives to be a role model for African American women, and to help them understand that, no matter where you are from, it is possible to attain higher education and become a professional. She believes that “to whom much is given, much is expected.” In addition, Dr. Davidson is always looking for ways to give back to the community she is from and give back to the people. She maintains professional affiliation with the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the National Medical Association, the Tennessee Medical Association and the Knoxville Academy of Medicine.
